In Sony’s latest financial report the company states that it shipped four million PlayStation 4 (PS4) units for the quarter ending September 30. This brings its global total shipments to 29 million to date. It predicts it will ship 17.5 million PS4s by the end of the financial year. Also, it singled out an increase in software sales, which consists mainly of games and downloadable content (DLC) from its Games & Networks Services division that includes PlayStation. The Kyoto-based firm’s new president Tatsumi Kimishima said it needed more time to “boost the quality” of its first smartphone offering, called Miitomo, and would not launch it until March – after initially aiming for the end of this year. Chief Executive Tatsumi Kimishima, a former banker who succeeded Satoru Iwata, also said the delay of the free-to-play Miitomo game would help Nintendo concentrate on selling its existing consoles and game software during the year-end holiday season. Nintendo Co. posted a JPY 3.17 billion (roughly Rs. 171 crores) profit for the fiscal second quarter, buoyed by sales growth of portable video game machines and software titles. The Japanese maker of Super Mario and Pokemon video games, said Wednesday that July-September sales rose 18 percent to JPY 113.96 billion, allowing it to stay in the black for a second quarter in a row.
