Cupertino-based tech giant Apple has released a new software update for its iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, MacBook and Apple TV users. The key highlight among all these updates is the iOS 12.4.1 for the iPhones, iPad and iPod touch. This operating system update fixes a vulnerability using which “a malicious application may be able to execute arbitrary code with system privileges.” Apple says that “after free issue was addressed through improved memory management.” The WatchOS 5.3.1 includes “important security updates.” Apple has not published CVE entries for this update. Samsung Electronics vice chairman JY Lee has called for active recruitment of software talent in a rare visit to one of the company’s education centres. Lee, the de facto leader of Samsung Group, visited the Samsung S/W Academy for Youth (SSAFY) at the city of Gwangju, one of four such institutions, to meet students and promote software development. In July, several reputable websites reported a critical security flaw in VLC, a popular open-source, multiplatform media-player application. Readers were urged to uninstall VLC before they got hacked. The problem is, the vulnerability did not exist—at least, not in the way the sites reported. Muthoot Finance on Monday reported a rise of 9 per cent in consolidated net profit at Rs 563 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2019. The company’s net profit in the year-ago period stood at Rs 518 crore. Total income increased to Rs 2,067.67 crore during the quarter as against Rs 1,783.47 crore in the same period of the previous fiscal, the company said in a regulatory filing.
