A worrying trend within the realm of government schools across the country continues to haunt the stake holders and concern authorities ever since recorded.

In another fresh study conducted by the Praja Foundation regarding the quality of education in public schools, reveals the government schools in abysmal condition when 45.08 per cent of students failed to even attend 10th grade in the 2015-16 academic session.

In a similar manner, around 34.06 per cent of students did not even qualify for twelfth grade.

Commenting on the predicament, Nitai Mehta, founder and managing trustee of Praja Foundation said that the gap directly fabricates the end percentage of children appearing and passing the board examinations in the two respective standards, as reported in The Indian Express.

How was the survey conducted?

  • The foundation reveals the predicament after its official’s extracts data’s and figures through an RTI reports that were filed over these last three years (2013-16). The received reports and figures were then calculated to estimate the dropouts from 30 per cent schools across each zone
  • A house to house survey was commissioned by the foundation to Hansa Research earlier this year in April-June across the city
  • The survey touches over 4, 572 households across Delhi and reveals the alarming numbers of students studying in state schools and municipal schools availing private tuitions
  • “The conclusion, perhaps, is that the quality of education being given to Delhi children going to government schools is poor,” said Project Director, Milind Mhaske of Praja Foundation.
