Your blogs are valuable, original content sources you own that you can tap into and repurpose across many of your marketing activities. Repurposing your blog content for your social media is one of the best ways to stretch your blog content to benefit your business.
Sharing your blog content on social media helps you reach a bigger audience, drive more traffic to your website, and increase your brand awareness. Plus, it lets you write less content (if that’s not something you enjoy doing).
Today, I’m sharing simple ways you can repurpose your business’ blog content for social media. From quotes and infographics to Instagram Reels and YouTube videos, I’m telling you how to create endless content from just one blog post.
Repurpose on Any Platform
Quotes
Your blogs are full of impactful and informative statements that you can pull for text quotes or graphic quotes. Text quotes are ideal for platforms like Twitter, where one short yet powerful line is enough content for one post.
Graphic quotes typically feature an inspiring or motivating quote paired with an on-brand, aesthetically pleasing graphic background. They are especially popular for sharing on Instagram in posts or Stories, Facebook, and Pinterest.
As you review your blog posts to pluck quotes for your social media text quotes or graphic quotes, you’ll likely find the first and last sentences of each paragraph pack the most punch. That’s because those sentences are meant to engage (first) and then summarize (last).
Here is a quote graphic I posted to Instagram highlighting a sentence from a guest blog I wrote.
Infographics
People love to share infographics on social media because they visually present concepts in a way that’s easy to understand and enjoyable to look at. Infographics are liked and shared on social media 3x more than any other content type.
Your goal for repurposing your blog content into an infographic is to take your blog’s main points and make them simple for your social media audience to digest. List and How-To blog formats are perfect for presenting points and steps and brief supporting text in an infographic. Though, you can create an infographic with just about any post you have.
Canva has many great infographic templates you can modify for your subject matter and branding. Alternatively, an infographic is a simple project for any graphic designer you might be working with.
Repurposing Blog Content on Pinterest
Most creative entrepreneurs are using Pinterest in some way at this point. And, if you’re not? Let me be the person to tell you: Start now!
Pinterest used to be considered an inspiration site for home decor, design, wedding planning, and baby showers. But its power as a business marketing tool is unrivaled, and lately, more and more companies are tapping into how it can serve them.
People who spend time on Pinterest use the platform to make choices about products and services they want to invest in. An incredible 83% of weekly Pinterest users have made a buying decision based on brands they found on Pinterest. Make sure your business is seen, and if you haven’t already, get started on Pinterest.
Pins
There are tons of possibilities for Pins you can create on Pinterest by repurposing your blog content.
Quote posts and infographics (as mentioned above) are ideal for formatting into Pins and linking back to your blog post. This helps get the people who are searching for your Pin’s key terms onto your website. With Canva’s thousands of Pin templates, you don’t have to be a graphic designer to quickly create nice-looking, attention-grabbing Pins.
Another strategy is to create multiple headlines for each blog post and then create several Pin designs for each headline. Ivory Mix shared this fantastic diagram showing how you can do this:
Story Pins
Story Pins are a newer Pinterest feature that not all users have access to creating yet. They are not to be confused with Instagram or Facebook Stories – they function a bit differently. Story Pins are specifically intended to share topics with lists or steps – think recipes, DIY projects, or business ideas.
Per Pinterest, “Story Pins is an all-new type of Pin and publishing option that gives creators a way to tell dynamic and visual stories with videos, voiceover and image and text overlay.”
My favorite Pinterest maven, Kate Ahl at Simple Pin Media, recommends not integrating Story Pins into your marketing strategy until your business is established on Pinterest and you know how to use the platform. That said, if you fit that description, Story Pins are a great place to engage with your Pinterest audience with content from your List and How-To blog posts.
Here is a Story Pin example from Simple Pin Media. You can see how the step-by-step functionality lends itself well to blog posts that feature lists and guides.
Sharing Blog Content on Instagram
Stories
70% of Instagram users watch Instagram Stories every day. Your blogs are the perfect resource for posting fresh and original information that, ultimately, will encourage watchers to learn more about your business and visit your website.
While you can post an image to your stories with your blog title and a CTA to visit your website (or, if you have 10K+ followers, to swipe up for your blog!), you can do so much more than that with your blogs in Stories!
Try repurposing your blog content by using three to four Stories frames to highlight significant points and takeaways from your blog. One easy way to do this would be to make a Stories frame for each subheader within your blog along with a sentence supporting that subheader point.
You can also share lists from your blog, facts, data, and any other valuable piece of information that might catch a watcher’s attention and make them want to learn more about your business.
Consider using different Stories stickers, like polls or questions, to get your audience’s feedback on your blog’s subject matter and help you build an understanding of how your content impacts or benefits them.
Reels
Reels were released in the summer of 2020 and are still gaining traction, but business marketers who use them see results. If you haven’t started making Reels yet, give it a shot!
In many of the groups and message boards I participate in, business owners complain that they want to make Reels but don’t because they don’t know what to say on them. I say, let your business’ blogs be your guide!
Every blog should have a topic, several supporting points, and some sort of message as to why that information is valuable for your audience. There, without writing anything new or making anything up, you have your Reel.
Browse your Instagram “Explore” tab for style and sound inspiration, then get Reel’in! Use your blog as a script for the flow of your Reel, whether you’re speaking your points or using text (or both), and you’ll see just how easy it is to repurpose your blog content this way.
Em at The Creative Bodega shares lots of helpful tips for helping new Reel’ers get started. If you need ideas on setting up, styling, and strategizing with your Reels, be sure to check her out.
Carousels
Small businesses can use Carousels to provide teasers of their blog posts and entice their Instagram audience to learn more. If you haven’t used Carousels before, they are technically posts that live on your Instagram feed, but they allow you to include up to 10 images or videos that viewers can swipe through.
A popular way to promote blogs with Carousels is first to display an image or video presenting the topic of your blog – this might be a question to your audience about the subject matter or a pain point they experience. Then, use the remaining Carousel images to outline the blog content, providing valuable explanations or solutions.
Repurposing Blog Content into YouTube Videos
YouTube is sometimes overlooked as a social media platform, but with the rise of video content in marketing strategy in 2021, it’s one to pay attention to. 83% of marketers who publish video content on YouTube find it to be effective = it works. Why not try it out?
If you’re not sure what concepts to share on YouTube, your blogs give you a fantastic starting point. You’ve (hopefully) researched your topics and selected subject matter your ideal customers want to know about. The hard work is done!
Reusing your blog content for YouTube video scripts provides you with a title, talking points to cover, and well-researched supporting information. All that’s left to do is record!
Using Blog Content to Grow Your LinkedIn Reach
Using LinkedIn to build your professional network and increase awareness about your business and its services or products is a crucial marketing strategy for small businesses in 2021. Take your LinkedIn content to the next level by using your blogs!
LinkedIn Articles
In addition to posting your new blogs to your business’ feed and sharing them with your network, republishing older blogs as LinkedIn articles is a useful tactic for giving your business contacts relevant and valuable content.
When you’re choosing blogs to post as LinkedIn articles, start with your Evergreen posts. Also, be sure to wait several weeks after you’ve posted about a new blog before publishing it to LinkedIn as an article.
Create a Post Series
One blog can serve as an excellent foundation for a series of LinkedIn posts to share with your contacts. Taking a successful blog (one that has gotten a lot of readers or engagement) and breaking it into 4-5 posts on that topic helps you establish authority on a topic, be seen as a valuable resource, and create weeks worth of content.
Simply do this by sharing one post introducing the blog topic and why your audience should care about it. Follow with one post about each of the blog’s subtopics, and voila! You have a post series!
Will you be trying any of these blog repurposing tactics? Let me know if you do!
