You may remember Scrat, the hapless sabre-toothed squirrel from the Ice Age movies. All of his misadventures were related to his dedication to the preservation of an acorn. There’s a similar comedic dynamic going on with Chuchel, which stars a ball of fur that battles anyone or anything that gets between it and its beloved cherry. Created by Czech outfit Amanita Design, Chuchel is a point-and-click comedy adventure featuring a host of strange critters. Amanita is best known for making gorgeous puzzle adventures like Machinarium, but this is the studio’s first foray into comedy. After spending most of her life bouncing off video games, Jessica Furseth finally discovers the joy and practical benefits of play ‘Luke, how do I get this power moon? Luke!” I’m playing Super MarioOdyssey while my partner, Luke, is trying to work. “You’ll figure it out,” he says patiently. Luke has been playing video games since he was a child, but this is my first ever game, and he’s thrilled that I’m invested in Mario’s quest to save Princess Peach. Considering it’s a $100bn (£70bn) industry, gaming is a surprisingly “love it, or just don’t get it” kind of activity. I’ve tried…
Cuba has handed a note of protest to the top US diplomat in Havana over the Trump administration’s creation of a Cuba Internet Task Force that it says is an attempt to violate its sovereignty and carry out subversive activities. The US State Department said last week it was convening the task force to promote “the free and unregulated flow of information” on the Communist-run island that has one of the lowest internet penetration rates in the world. The group would examine ways of “expanding internet access and independent media”, it said. “The Foreign Ministry’s note asked the US government…
San Francisco-based Gfycat has said it thinks the clips are “objectionable”. The creation of such videos has become more common after the release of a free tool earlier this month that made the process relatively simple. The developer says FakeApp has been downloaded more than 100,000 times. It works by using a machine-learning algorithm to create a computer-generated version of the subject’s face. To do this it requires several hundred photos of the celebrity in question for analysis and a video clip of the person whose features are to be replaced. The results – known as deepfakes – differ in…

She warned that some, under the “pretext of religious belief”, were trying to “actively pervert the purpose of education… to narrow young people’s horizons, to isolate and segregate and in the worst cases indoctrinate impressionable minds with extremist ideology”. Amanda Spielman, the Chief Inspector of OFSTED, on Thursday…

You can carefully craft a résumé, cover letter and prepare for an interview but at the end of the day it’s what you post in your spare time that may have the biggest effect on whether you land the job you’re applying for. A recent career builder survey showed that 70-percent of would-be employers are now scouring social media to learn more about clients. What are they looking for? Drug use, inappropriate comments, or possibly illegal activity according to Consumer Reports — and in some instances, if the law allows, would-be bosses are even asking for passwords to take a…
The family of a man from Ohio whose murder was recorded and posted on Facebook is suing the social networking site for negligence and wrongful death. It led the website to launch a review of its procedures following criticism that it stayed on the site for hours. A ‘monster’ who ‘just snapped’ Zuckerberg addresses ‘Facebook killing’ Mr Godwin’s family say the lawsuit, which was…
