At Nintendo’s E3 2018 presentation, one of the biggest reveals was that the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – releasing December 7, 2018 on the Nintendo Switch – would include every character from the Super Smash Bros. History, including those that were offered through downloadable content (DLC) in the past, alongside a couple of new ones in the Inklings from Splatoon and Ridely from the Metroid series. But that’s not the same for stages, the arenas you fight on. A recent press demo, covered by Japanese video game magazine Famitsu and translated by gaming website Source Gaming, revealed that not every stage from the Super…

Amazon on Wednesday said it would offer incentives to entice entrepreneurs to set up their own small package-delivery businesses as part of Amazon’s latest effort to solve the challenge of getting goods the last mile to customer doorsteps. In a significant development, Facebook has abandoned its plan to develop high-flying solar-powered drones called Aquila that was aimed to deliver Internet to nearly four billion people in remote parts of the world. A high altitude platform station (HAPS) system, Aquila’s mission, according to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, was to connect the world and help people who do not have online access all the opportunities of the Internet. “We’ve decided not to design or build our own aircraft any longer, and to close our facility in Bridgwater in the UK,” Yael Maguire, a Director of Engineering at Facebook, wrote in a blog post on Wednesday.…

It may not always happen in your town, but all too often it happens somewhere. Across the country, somewhere on the map, tragedy frequently strikes. Sometimes it’s a natural disaster. Other times it might be a beloved young member of the community who has been felled by a disease. These tragedies can hit communities hard because they have a way of affecting everyone, whether you’re reading about it online or hearing it from a neighbor. But over the years, I’ve learned that business owners no longer have to wring their hands and wish they could do something to help their community. If you want…

Remember when people were amazed that Facebook would spend $1 billion on Instagram? Back in 2012, the mobile app was known primarily for retro filters placed over the photos of its young urban users. The company had no revenue. It didn’t even have an Android app. What folly! Things couldn’t be more different now. An analyst at Bloomberg Intelligencerecently valued Instagram at $100 billion. The photo platform recently crossed a billion monthly active users, and the same Bloomberg analyst suggested it’s on track to double that already gargantuan figure. And perhaps most significantly, people now are beginning to spend about as much time in the…

A college football Saturday usually has games kicking off every hour and half-hour (or more often), because there are so many games that they can’t all start at 1, 4, or 8 Eastern, like in the NFL. But more games than not fit into a few established buckets of time. A few decades of a mostly standard college TV schedule has allowed us to get a good sense of what games should look like at different times of the day and week. Each slot has its own personality and demands. Would it be nice to have a game as big…

Eve Thomas, an artist and magazine editor from Montreal, would not call herself a gamer. She played video games on a Mac as a child and enjoyed Super Mario Galaxy on the Wii, but most modern video games don’t appeal. “I don’t like the stress of dying,” she says. “And every single advert for most games presumed me to be a guy. They would presume a certain gaze. They didn’t feel like they were speaking to me.” About three years ago, Thomas got in contact with game programmer Brie Code at Ubisoft, one of the world’s biggest games publishers, hoping to…
