Rob Gronkowski will miss next week’s game against the Miami Dolphins. Photograph: Nesmith/CSM/REX/Shutterstock The NFL has suspended New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski one game for a late, gratuitous hit to the head of Buffalo defensive back Tre’Davious White. White was lying face down on the sideline after intercepting a pass Sunday when the 265lbs Gronkowski body-slammed him, driving his forearm into White’s back and head. Gronkowski was called for unnecessary roughness, but because of retaliation from the Bills there was no penalty assessed. White was later evaluated for concussion, a particular concern given the issues around brain trauma suffered by NFL players.…

Today I spent one hour playing the game called Whamageddon. Which is tragic, since the game lasts almost a month. The rules are simple: From December 1 to December 24, avoid hearing the Die Hard of Christmas songs, the song that’s not really a Christmas song but still gets played over every CVS sound system all December: Wham’s “Last Christmas.” (If you’re playing, don’t click that link.) Yesterday, only an hour after my editor Slacked me about the game, “Last Christmas” came blasting over the office stereo. And that afternoon, just in case I wanted to call the first one a gimme, the song came on again.…

Tim from Marshall, MI I feel like Jamaal Williams (to be successful) has to be treated as a feature back. He seems to get stronger as the game progresses. I like Aaron Jones because he has the big-play ability. However, it seems to me that if they split carries, Jamaal will not experience the kind of success that Aaron will, given his style of running. Am I off-base? We haven’t seen Williams and Jones used in tandem yet, so it’s hard to say what would happen if they split carries. I think their running styles complement each other, though. Williams made plays from the…

I’m lost in my living room. But fortunately I’m adrift in the warmth of a song playing through the speaker of my record player. One month of completely giving up social media has resulted in 86 unread Facebook notifications, seven unopened Snapchats, and countless instances of Twitter telling me “so and so and 150K others liked so and so’s tweet.” Yet, here I sit with my eyes closed while Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side Of The Moon echoes off the walls. Can a Millennial raised in the cocoon of constant social media really unplug without feeling unplugged from reality? That was the…

Many important decisions made within a government agency happen after collecting and analyzing pertinent data. Reviewing analytics about your agency’s social media presence is smart, but many agencies just don’t do it. Part of the challenge is that a lot of government agencies still don’t have a dedicated social media coordinator. In an “other duties as assigned” situation, the nice-to-have aspects of a social media program, such as reporting on analytics, often get pushed aside because there isn’t enough time or manpower. The other challenge is discerning what data is the most meaningful to government agencies. WHAT DATA SHOULD WE…

Embattled computer security firm Kaspersky Lab said Thursday that malware-infected Microsoft Office software and not its own was to blame for the hacking theft of top-secret US intelligence materials. Adding tantalising new details to the cyber-espionage mystery that has rocked the US intelligence community, Kaspersky also said there was a China link to the hack. The Moscow-based anti-virus software maker, which is now banned on US government computers because of alleged links to Russian intelligence, confirmed that someone did apparently steal valuable National Security Agency programs from an NSA worker’s home computer, as first reported by the Wall Street Journal on October 5. According…
