The Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai during a visit to Africa’s most populated country, Nigeria, said that nearly half of primary-aged children are not enrolled in school.
Moreover, Malala said the government needs to focus on improving its education system.

Malala Yousafzai, Nobel Prize winner for Peace and the youngest UN Messenger of Peace recently turned 20, and celebrated her birthday with girls from conflict ridden areas in the Middle East.
The young activist, who survived a gunshot to the head by a Taliban gunman in 2012, recovered after surgery.
Youngest UN messenger of Peace:
On April 11, 2017, 19-year-old Malala Yousafzai became the youngest Messenger of Peace, the highest honour given by the United Nations for an initial period of two year to promote girls’ education.
“My goal is to make sure every child, a girl and a boy; they get the opportunity to go to school. It is their basic human right, so I will be working on that and I will never stop until I see the last child going to school,” said Malala, at the time.
State of education in Nigeria:
- Speaking in regard of education in Nigeria, Malala said the government should declare a “state of emergency on education in Nigeria.”
- “They are happy to work more on education. We are also happy to hear positive response from the minister as well in ensuring that education is prioritised,” she said in recent Reuters report.
Moreover, taking a step further, Malala also campaigned to maintain awareness of the more than 200 schoolgirls who were abducted in 2014 by Islamist militant group Boko Haram, whose name means “Western education is forbidden.”
