The Indian Institute of Technology – Madras (IIT-M) websites was apparently hacked by one ‘Faisal 1337x’. Indeed, the Thursday morning not only affected the top-noch institute authorities, but also made students go into shock.

As per reports, quite a few websites controlled by the institute were hacked by unknown people.

Which sites were hacked?

  • Sites with content on announcements of conferences to be organised by the institute
  • Six department websites
  • Five centres of excellence sites
  • Five other sites

Meanwhile, leading daily reports said that the main website of IIT-M (https://www.iitm.ac.in/) was not hacked.

Here’s what was displayed on the website:

  • The website had put the photo of the famous joker from the Batman movie Dark Knight in the garb of McDonald’s mascot Ronald McDonald
  • The message posted on the page read “Pakistan Zindabad” and “You don’t know the power of Pakistan hackers”

While commenting on this hack, IIT Madras spokesperson Venkatraman said, “I came to know sometime in the morning from students that the website was hacked.”

The pages were restored after some time, and started working as usual,  reports added.

Fest websites to be delinked

IIT-M is all set to conduct its annual cultural fest Saarang from January 4 to 8, 2017.

However now, the institute has now decided to delink cultural and technical fests’ websites.
