Irked by the speculations which alleges schools teachers of bunking classes and taking up teaching jobs at other places, the Gujarat government has, of late, issued directions to all district primary education officers (DPEOs) and administrative officers (AOs) to ensure every teacher provides their respective districts with their credentials promptly on boards.

Following the directions issued earlier this month, teachers are mandated to provide their photographs and other details.

“This board prepared by each school – carrying information of each teacher’s name, education qualification, date of appointment, along with a photograph – has to be placed at a public place that can be easily viewed by all, especially by the School Management Committee (SMC) members and parents visiting the school,” reads the directive.

What has prompted the move?

It comes before the notice of the government when several parents complained of the malpractice whereby teachers skipped their classes and teaches somewhere else to make more money.

It is then acknowledged that government teachers, teaching in the morning shift, teach at other private schools in the evening.

“This is to avoid a situation where, for instance, a government teacher of a morning shift school also starts teaching at a private school in the evening shift. These boards put up at prominent public places will help the parents identify teachers who are teaching their children. Otherwise, parents hardly get to meet teachers,” said director primary education M I Joshi, as reported in The Indian express
