Blizzard has rolled out Akande Ogundimu, better known as the third-generation Doomfist, as the 25th hero of Overwatch to the multiplayer shooter’s public test realm, allowing PC gamers to try out the long-awaited character before he is released into the main game.
The new Overwatch hero comes with unique skills as a brawler, and here are a few tips and tricks to maximize Doomfist and his abilities.
‘Street Fighter’ Comes To ‘Overwatch’
Doomfist is an offense hero with a playstyle that resembles a character from fighting games more when compared to the other characters in Overwatch. One of his skills, Rising Uppercut, even looks like the Shoryuken from the Street Fighter series.
Doomfist is a close-range fighter, similar to Reinhardt, and unlike the other Overwatch heroes who have long-range attacks. Using Doomfist should be treated more like playing a 3D fighter game instead of a shooter, and that mindset will make it easier to understand the hero and what he can do.
As with fighting games, combos are what makes Doomfist’s skillset more devastating. For example, as pointed out by Redditor 9Arca9, a combo of Seismic Slam, Rising Uppercut, and a headshot will deal 270 damage, which will be enough to take out most low-health heroes. Another efficient combo is Seismic Slam, Rocket Punch to send an opponent into a wall, and Rising Uppercut.
Maximizing Rocket Punch
Rocket Punch, which works like Reinhardt’s Charge, could be a very damaging skill if an opponent is knocked into a wall.
Players should note that Rocket Punch goes through shielded heroes, including Reinhardt and Orisa. This will help him get to the enemies hiding behind the barriers.
Always Have Back Up
One of the major weaknesses of Doomfist, however, is that he has no escape skill. After diving into opponents using Rocket Punch, for example, he is at the mercy of a barrage of counterattacks from the enemy team, with only his passive ability that generates shields the only thing that could keep him alive.
Doomfist will need support to survive such encounters. The shields set up by Reinhardt and Orisa will not be able to protect him as he launches himself into enemy lines, so Zarya and her mobile shield bubbles will prove to be Doomfist’s best friend.
In fact, Zarya’s Graviton Surge to pull enemies into one area and Doomfist’s Meteor Strike form a very deadly attack that could wipe out entire teams in a flash.
Stay Away From Orisa
Doomfist players, however, should definitely back off from opponents using Orisa. While Doomfist can break through Orisa’s Protective Barrier, the robot hero and her skills are actually able to counter most of Doomfist’s abilities.
