Samsung has started pushing out a new security update to its Galaxy A5 (2016) smartphone. Weighing in at under 11MB and arriving as firmware version XXS3BPLA, the update brings along Android security patches for the month of December. The update is currently hitting units in Europe, although other regions should get it soon as well. If you are a Galaxy A5 (2016) user in Europe, and haven’t received the update yet, be patient, as OTA toll outs are usually staged. Alternatively, you can also check for the update by heading to your handset’s Settings menu. source”cnbc”

Great time to be a bank stock investor: CIO 20 Hours Ago | 03:56 The rally in financials may have paused recently, but expert Anton Schutz still thinks it’s a great time to be a bank stock investor. That’s because the Federal Reserve hiked interest rates in December, the yield curve is steepening and there is optimism for loan growth, the chief investment officer for Mendon Capital Advisors said in an interview with CNBC’s “Closing Bell” on Thursday. On top of that, President-elect Donald Trump is proposing a cut in the corporate tax rate, he added. “They’re one of the biggest…
Toru Yamanaka | AFP | Getty Images Faced with the prospect of a multi-billion-dollar writedown that could wipe out its shareholders’ equity, Japan’s Toshiba is running out of fixes: it is burning cash, cannot issue shares and has few easy assets left to sell. The Tokyo-based conglomerate, which is still recovering from a $1.3 billion accounting scandal in 2015, dismayed investors and lenders again this week by announcing that cost overruns at a U.S. nuclear business bought only last year meant it could now face a crippling charge against profit. Toshiba says it will be weeks before it can give…
Xaume Olleros | Bloomberg | Getty Images Beijing’s crackdown on capital flight could be about to extend to Singapore amid concerns that large sums of money may have been funneled out of the mainland in violation of China’s strict currency controls through casinos in the city state. As the nation battles to plug holes in a system which is seeing billions haemorrhage from a slowing economy at a time of unprecedented global uncertainty, a potential misuse of the China UnionPay banking network at casinos in Singapore could be contributing significantly to capital flight. The concerns centre on a casino “resort…

China’s cash-strapped LeEco said it is in talks to secure 10 billion yuan ($1.4 billion) from an unidentified strategic investor, but the announcement was seen as insufficient to dispel concern over the high-tech conglomerate’s financial health. Led by tycoon Jia Yueting, LeEco expanded aggressively into electric and driverless cars and smartphones after making its name in video streaming, but last month warned staff…

android 2016 collage Android is in a very different place than it was when 2016 began. While the last 12 months were filled with much of the usual pomp and circumstance surrounding the release of new handsets, connected gadgets, and OS refreshes, the state of Android has never been more promising or less predictable. Google stepped out from behind the curtain and into the spotlight. Headsets took over smartwatches as the trend of the moment. And Samsung’s phablet woes opened the door for smaller players to make big gains. Through it all, one thing was constant: Android’s dominance. Throughout 2016’s…
