Getting meetings under way faster and more efficiently can contribute to cost savings and productivity gains, as Intel highlighted in its annual IT performance report on Monday. Intel has established over 500 “wireless” conference rooms where meetings start within seconds of everyone gathering. The collaboration and sharing tools are instantly deployed wirelessly and that has helped save time and money, said Steve Sciarappo, vice president at Intel’s information technology group. That wireless concept will be expanded this year, Sciarappo said. The underlying technology behind wireless conference rooms is Intel’s homegrown Unite toolset, with which users can also share room resources like…

The ETF.com “Inside ETF” conference, the biggest exchange-traded fund conference in the world, kicks off Sunday night with north of 2,000 participants and four days of packed events. Despite higher volatility and lower returns, 2015 was another record year for ETF flows, with roughly $242 billion in net inflows, an increase of about 10 percent. By comparison, mutual funds had $125 billion in outflows. That’s $2.1 trillion in assets under management, and while it is still small in comparison to the roughly $11 trillion in assets under management at mutual funds, the mutual funds have been steadily losing assets for…
UPDATE: The Kickstarter funds referenced actually pertain to YouTube videos Tereshinski later made featuring bits of Ant Simulator—videos which he is also forced to remove in light of today’s events. However the game itself was funded with other sources. Either way, both the Kickstarted videos and the game itself are now pulled. Apologies for the confusion, and still: Best of luck to Tereshinski. ORIGINAL STORY: Over the years, we’ve heard of more than a few Kickstarter projects vanishing into the void, collapsing, running out of money, and et cetera, but Ant Simulator has to be hands-down the weirdest saga yet.…
Earnings per share for its fiscal first quarter came in at 46 cents, on revenue of $5.37 billion. “China comp sales had been at 6 [percent],” Cramer said on “Squawk on the Street.” “It’s decelerated to 5 [percent].” “I think what people are saying is ‘look, I don’t care about your long-term view that China is on a tear; that you opened 151 stores in the quarter; I don’t care about that. What I care about is maybe the weakness in China is bleeding into coffee. ‘That is the central issue about why the stock is down.” DISCLOSURE: Cramer’s trust…
Samsung is again following the lead of Apple, this time in building ad-blocking capabilities into its mobile browser. Samsung Internet will let users install helper apps that block ads and other content from websites they visit, much like Safari in iOS 9. Adblock Fast and Crystal have already jumped on board with their own plugins to speed up Samsung’s browser. While such ad blocking raised a major furor during the launch of iOS 9, such applications quickly fell from the top ranks of the App Store. So we’re unlikely to see a catastrophic revenue crash for publishers. However, there’s an…
With only a handful of S&P 500 companies in the green this year, it’s become difficult to determine which names will make a safe bet. And as investors question the future of specific stocks, one portfolio manager says they should instead be looking to the past. Kim Forrest of Fort Pitt Capital said her current stock-picking strategy is to evaluate whether current leadership has experienced tumultuous markets, and how they managed during previous sell-offs. “It’s good to see who has been able to navigate their ship through really rocky shores before, so that’s what we’re doing. We’re looking for management…

Spencer Platt | Getty Images Check out which companies are making headlines before the bell: General Electric — The company reported adjusted quarterly profit of 52 cents per share, 3 cents above estimates, but revenue came in short of forecasts due to a strong dollar and some shipments in power and renewables pushed into 2016 from 2015. CVS Health, Walgreens Boots Alliance — Baird began coverage on both drug store operators with “outperform” ratings. It cited a broad, flexible platform and crisp execution for its opinion on CVS, while noting the synergies Walgreens will achieve from its purchase of…
As crude oil prices rally back above $30 per barrel, the chairman of India’s Vedanta Resources told CNBC that the only way for the commodity was up. “Definitely we are at the bottom, but in India a lot more has to happen. The (new) Modi government has come and people have a lot of expectations. The sense of urgency has come,” Anil Agarwal, the group chairman of the London-listed commodities giant told CNBC on Friday from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Agarwal added that low prices were “hurting everybody,” but that Vedanta was advantaged by being diversified across…
