Like the iPhone SE, which has the body of an iPhone 5s and the mind of an iPhone 6s (more or less), the new 9.7-inch iPad Pro looks very much like an iPad Air 2. Their dimensions are identical. Their screen sizes are identical. The 9.7-inch iPad Pro is very much the follow-up to the iPad Air 2, but with a different name. But beyond the basic similarities, there are some huge differences between the iPad Air 2 and the new 9.7-inch iPad Pro, which starts at $599 for the 32GB version. Jim Cramer thinks a great restaurant shake-out has begun. “We are seeing some restaurant names pull away from the pack the way racehorses separate themselves from the field … whatever the explanation, the winners are creating some dazzling performance,” the “Mad Money” host said. The first winner crushing the competition is McDonald’s. The all-day breakfast idea was once one that was laughed at on Wall Street, and it has now rocked the quick-serve world. Jack in the Box, Popeyes and even DineEquity have felt the wrath of rejuvenated McDonald’s. Scott Mlyn | CNBC “I think the winners are all worth…

The second generation of the Porsche Panamera has been spied testing near Weissach, Germany. The test mules of both the standard V6 and the powerful Turbo were sighted taking rounds back to back. If one looks closely beyond the pseudo headlamps and tail lamps, one can see the redesigned car, which still has the familiar styling of the current model. However, this successor still looks better than the car it will replace. The standard car (one in black) will get a revamped fascia with evolutionary headlights and LED turn indicators. Apart from the sculpted hood, the front fender vents and…

Twitter turned 10 on Monday and while it might be celebrating at the moment, there are some sobering facts to contend with including a 65 percent drop in its share price in the last year, discontent from Wall Street and concerns over whether it can continue to add users. Jack Dorsey returned to the helm of the company he founded last year, replacing Dick Costolo, but has yet to make a big impact, though has stabilized the ship to some extent. While revenue growth for Twitter’s 2015 fiscal year was strong, reaching $2.2 billion, a 58 percent year-on-year rise, monthly…

When I think about the chance encounters I’ve had in my travels, dominoes come to mind. Every effect has its cause, sometimes stretching back for weeks, years, or (in this case) eons. It’s as if time itself conspires, wilfully, to set up the cascade that tumbles us into the present moment, as if no encounter truly happens by chance. The domino metaphor is uniquely appropriate in this story. It’s set in Nepal, my second home since 1979, and to where I’d return as a visitor or resident almost every year for the next three decades. But on 25 April 2015,…

Locals call it the “wee mad road”: a looping ribbon of asphalt that hugs the coastline between the fishing hamlets of Inverkirkaig, Coigach and Achiltibuie in the northwestern Scottish Highlands. “These single-track roads can take you to some wild places,” said Lesley Crosfield, the proprietor of nearby boutique hotel and restaurant The Albannach. “That’s why it’s always worth taking the slower road: there’s so much to learn around here.” Crosfield runs Britain’s northernmost Michelin-starred restaurant, 85 miles northwest of Inverness. It’s exactly where she wanted to be. She first fell in love with Scotland’s northwest coast in the 1980s –…
