Worried about a coming shortage of physicians? Don’t be, says Cameron Powell, CEO of Physician Cognition. Low-cost providers, such as nurse practitioners, and consumers themselves, he says, will fill in nicely. Empowering them will be what Powell calls “MD-mimicking technology.” Powell’s company is building just such a technology. The program, called Xebra Pro, is being groomed to advise healthcare providers and patients about the signs, symptoms, diagnoses and treatment of diseases. Xebra is being groomed initially for use by healthcare providers. A Web-based “clinician app” has been in testing since April. It can still be accessed online. Lately the development…

A shortage of IT professionals in Germany and the Netherlands is worrying enterprises, industry associations and government institutions in the two countries. Germany has more than 43,000 vacancies for IT specialists, while there are 15,000 listed IT job openings in the Netherlands. “Every unfilled vacancy means a loss of value creation and innovation in Germany,” said Thorsten Dirks, president of German digital association Bitkom. Research from Bitkom shows that almost 60% of the German companies surveyed are short of IT specialists, and demand is greatest for software developers. Almost 64% of the IT companies surveyed have vacancies for software…

10.4K Total Views For almost two years, I spent five hours on a bus [in Bangalore] getting to and from work. Two-wheeler pooling is something that is not available at the moment. A person working in a different company but in the same business park can offer such a service. Delhi’s odd-even formula would be good if people in Bangalore opt for it, but I don’t think they will do that. Our company asked us to carpool, but I see that 90% of the employees come in their own cars and don’t invite anyone to join them. But I would…
Yo, what up my glip glops? While you’re dealing with the excruciating wait for season three of Rick and Morty, Adult Swim has something that might make that wait just a tad easier: Pocket Mortys, a Rick and Morty Pokémon-style game coming to iOS and Android on January 14. So far, Rick and Morty’s main gaming presence has been limited to aballoon-popping simulator — a real-life implementation of a barebones tablet game used on the show to cement the notion that Morty’s dad Jerry is a simple-minded man. While some of us openly and loudly hoped Rick and Morty’s first substantial gaming presence would be a…
Image credit: Bloomua | Shutterstock.com Social media is one of the easiest and most inexpensive ways to promote your brand within your target market, but you won’t have much of a reach on your own page. Building relationships with social media influencers is your answer — you can extend your reach and boost your visibility by creating relationships on social media with the right people. You probably already have a personal network built and know some of the people in your industry. But there is more to be done. Are you connected to the bloggers who write about your industry? People who…
Nabi Tang While the holiday season brings us cheer, it also brings with it a whole slew of not-so-good things. Stores are crowded. Your bank account is drained. Distant family members (like your casually racist Uncle Cal) start popping up out of the woodwork and, in addition, social media becomes almost unbearable. During the holiday season, everyone wants to appear to be in good spirits and full of holiday cheer, so they attempt to stock their social media feeds with “festive” things — you know, pictures of their tree, pictures of their infant nephews, pictures of their Christmas goose… you get the idea.…
Experts can answer online learners’ questions in real time through social media. For online students, social media is an opportunity to personalize and enhance their experience, allowing them to interact with classmates, ask each other questions and collaborate on group assignments, experts say. “Your learning experiences are no longer limited to the physical borders of a college campus,” says Dawn Edmiston, clinical associate professor of marketing at the Mason School of Business at the College of William and Mary, who has taught online courses at several different universities. “Literally the world becomes your classroom, and social media is a great channel for…
We have taken social media too seriously this year and we might take it more seriously in the coming year. The chances are we took the virtual a bit too seriously this year, and chances are that we will take it even more seriously the coming year. While social media might still be just scratching the surface in India when it comes to actual penetration, there is no denying the fact that in 2015 it wasn’t a protest if it was not on social media, it wasn’t an outrage if tweets hadn’t been fired with pointed hashtags, and it wasn’t…
