Following the launch of the OnePlus 7 Pro last month, OnePlus has already provided a full update to the camera software as well as tweaking other apps and the underlying code. That process will continue, and the company has highlighted a number of areas that are up next in the queue.
The details come from the OnePlus.com forum. A recent post talks about some of the features requested by the user base, and which are being considered and implemented for future firmwares. I want to pick out three.
First up is the continued improvements to the camera software. Building on the changes to the photo processing, OnePlus has confirmed that the ability to use the wide-angle camera for video recording is under development. This may take some time, but the manufacturer has promised that software updates for new models will be available two years (with security updates for three years).
More customisation options are being added to the user interface, including the return of the ‘warp charge’ sound effect when fast charging the handset, increasing the number of apps that can be seen in various parts of the launcher, and working on a way to implement a better visual notification system – thanks to the full screen design of the 7 Pro screen the LED for notification is no more.
Finally OnePlus has also noted that customisation options are coming to its zen mode, which locks down your smartphone to calls and camera – the idea being that with no interruptions you can get on with other areas of your life. Currently this is fixed to twenty minutes with no whitelisting of apps, making it a novelty but not as flexible as many would like.
While these are all welcome additions, many OnePlus 7 Pro users will be hoping that the company also address bugs that are impacting the real world use of the device with the same care and attention – notably the ‘phantom touch’ issue where the handset believes the screen has been touched.
Approached for comment on the phantom touch issue, a OnePlus spokesperson said “we have received limited reports from users describing their encounter of the “phantom taps” experience. Our team has worked hard to identify these cases, and we will release a firmware update in the upcoming weeks.”
