Deutsche Bank is among more than 20 bidders in talks to potentially buy a 3.2 billion euro ($3.5 billion) loan portfolio from state-owned rival HSH Nordbank [HSH.UL] as Germany’s biggest lender tries to do deals despite its troubles, sources told Reuters. HSH and Deutsche declined to comment. Four finance industry sources with knowledge of the situation said on Friday Deutsche Bank was looking at the portfolio. Two of the sources said it included at least 500 million euros of non-performing loans related to HSH’s shipping finance business. “It could be an asset play for Deutsche where they pick up the…

Jeff J Mitchell | Getty Images Shadow banks are on the cusp of taking the lead from their commercial counterparts in the mortgage market, new data suggests, a phenomenon that hasn’t been seen since the 2008 financial crisis. Non-bank lenders, which inhabit the comparatively lightly regulated industry, accounted for 48 percent of mortgage activity in 2015 — and there’s reason to believe that when all is said and done for 2016 that number will grow. ADVERTISING inRead invented by Teads The implications, while good for an industry that is believed to hold about $80 trillion in assets, carry some dark…

here’s an old saying: You can have performance or portability in a gaming laptop, but not both. Well, not anymore. The MSI GS63VR Stealth is the first laptop I’ve seen using Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1060, and I’m suitably impressed. In fact, I’m blown away by the amount of performance that can be squeezed into a laptop that’s actually portable. How portable? On our postal scale, the laptop pushes just over four pounds sans power brick. Granted, it’s not as featherlight as an ultrabook, but the Stealth is right in the neighborhood of the svelte Dell XPS 15 and Apple MacBook…

r, 29 October 2016 Google Android Verison Deals If you are interested in picking up one of Google’s new Pixel phones in the US, you can either go on the Google store directly or Project Fi or hit up Verizon for a unit. The latter is currently the only major carrier that offers the handsets and thankfully with no carrier lock and with updates coming straight from Google. In the absence of a Pixel offer of its own, a few days ago T-Mobile launched a rather sneaky deal to draw more Pixel users to its unlimited data plans by offering…

Sony is already looking forward to next year and has already registered two phones with a Russian regulatory body. The Sony Xperia G3121 and G3112 are their internal model numbers, which doesn’t tell us much except to suggest they may be mid-range or even low-end devices. The Xperia E4 a while back had a number of G2104. Sony’s internal numbers are not terribly consistent though, the two new phones may be closer to the Xperia XA instead, aka “F311x”. The rumor mill is lacking Xperias currently, but we should see some breaks in secrecy as big tech events approach (CES,…

Meizu counted up twice and announced the Meizu M5. It features a bigger screen than the m3s – now 5.2” big and covered with 2.5D beveled glass. The mTouch 2.1 fingerprint reader below the screen has been optimized and now triggers in just 0.2 seconds. Not bad for a phone that costs CNY 700 ($105/€95). The M5 continues to be powered by the MediaTek MT6750 chipset found in the m3s. The similarities continue with a choice of 2GB RAM and 16GB storage or 3GB RAM, 32GB storage (both versions have a microSD slot so don’t sweat it so much). The second…

Rising mortgage rates, overheating home prices, nothing for sale, pre-election jitters — the list of reasons to lose confidence in the housing market is growing. In fact, the share of consumers who think now is a good time to buy a home fell 5 percentage points in September in a monthly housing sentiment survey (known as HPSI) by Fannie Mae. The only drop that was bigger was the share of consumers who think mortgage rates will fall. Brief drop in mortgage rates fuels refinancing activity  Wednesday, 5 Oct 2016 | 7:32 AM ET | 01:20 “The decline in the HPSI over…
