The holidays are over and the new year is upon us. It’s a great time to get your productivity needs in order for the next 12 months. The first thing you’ll need is the right software to get things done. Personally, I’d go with Office 365. Microsoft’s productivity suite costs $99 per year for up to five users on Office 365 Home, or $70 for one user on Office 365 Personal. It may seem a little strange to pay for the Office suite in this age of Google Drive, free desktop suites like Libre Office, and even Microsoft’s free Office Online.…

For 2015, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei had reported a revenue growth of 35%. However, for the ongoing year, the company expects the rate to be somewhere around 32%. This was revealed by Eric Xu, Huawei’s chief executive, in a New Year’s message to company employees. “The year 2016 has seen a flock of black swans – both political and economic – sweep across the globe,” the CEO said. “Nevertheless, we have remained focused on our strategy and have patiently applied ourselves to making breakthroughs and creating real value for our customers.” The company doesn’t seem too optimistic for the coming…

Earlier today, we learned that the beta program for Nougat on Samsung’s latest flagship pair is officially over. This was shared along with a suggested release time frame of January 2017 for the consumer version. But, if that wasn’t enough to prove Samsung is really working hard on the OTA, it appears the support documentation for both models has now been updated to reflect the OS change and is already spreading across Samsung regional servers and websites. The originals in English can be found at the source links, if you want to dig through them, but from what we managed…

Next year could see the Federal Reserve become more strategic and hawkish about rate hikes contrary to many analysts’ and investors’ expectations, Allianz’s chief economic advisor, Mohamed El-Erian, told CNBC. “For the first time in a very long time, I think the market is underestimating how much the Fed will actually hike,” El-Erian said Wednesday on “Squawk Box.” “We’re getting out of the world in which the Fed is the only game in town policy-wise.” The economist said he believed the central bank’s consensus for three rate hikes in 2017 was a minimum amount. “If it’s not three [hikes], it’s…

A sector that has gained 24 percent in barely seven weeks would seem primed for a pullback. But for banks, there looks to be room to run yet. Their massive runup since the Nov. 8 election has given the group about a 230 percent gain since the financial crisis lows in early 2009. However, banks remain well-below their precrisis highs. And with an incoming administration expected to roll back some key regulations and interest rates on the rise, the momentum may be…

The market simply got ahead of itself on Nvidia, Citron Research’s Andrew Left said on CNBC’s “Fast Money” on Wednesday. Left argued that the stock, which has gained more than 231 percent in 2016, is simply not worth its current valuation. The stock’s price-to-earnings ratio was recently seen near 57 on a trailing 12-month basis, according to FactSet. “If you own the stock, the easy money’s been made. Buying it right here, it’s a bit more challenging,” Left said, pointing to the stock’s recent rally. Up to Tuesday’s close, the stock had gained 65 percent since the election. Some investors…
