Old data breaches carried out years ago are entering into the limelight thanks to anonymous internet users like Keen. Earlier this week, Keen, a data collector who runs the site Vigilante.pw, helped to uncoverdetails about stolen data taken from the popular porn site Brazzers. A copy of almost 800,000 accounts, probably originally hacked back in 2012, fell into his hands. The stolen database is just one of the many Keen has on file, in fact, and each one can involve thousands or even millions of internet accounts. Vigilante.pw continually archives past data breaches as a way to warn the public.…

Experiencing virtual reality will blow your mind, but it’ll also demolish your wallet. Or at least that’s what people think, and that perception was exacerbated when Oculus’s CEO said that building a Rift setup from scratch will set you back a cool $1,500. Since theOculus Rift itself costs $600, that implies you’ll need a $900 PC to run it. I often hear people say you’ll need to spend about $1,000 on a PC for VR. Nothing could be further from the truth—and it’s all thanks to AMD. Team Red trumpeted the arrival of “VR for the masses” with the launch…
The Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) has been spotted on GFXBench. The listing reveals several of the device’s key specifications, including octa-core 1.8GHz CPU, 5.5-inch full HD display, 3GB/32GB memory configuration, and Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. However, the selling point of the handset, as revealed by the listing, seems to be the 16MP front camera unit (the rear unit is 16MP as well). While it’s entirely possible for benchmarks to get things wrong, we’ve rarely seen that happening with camera megapixels, especially on GFXBench. So, assuming that the Galaxy A7 (2017) does feature a 16MP front camera, it’s a solid upgrade from…

Google may serve a side of tablet with the main entrée of Pixel phones this fall. According to the (usually very accurate) hardware-leaking Evan Blass a new tablet will be built by Huawei and ready by year’s end. Facebook makes a habit of borrowing features from Twitter such as hashtags, a live feed, verification badges, and followers. Now, the company is testing a new feature that is about as close as Facebook could get to creating a version of Twitter. The new feature is currently dubbed “What friends are talking about” and is being tested with a small subset of users. It was first spotted by Mashable on Friday in Facebook for Android. “What friends are talking about” appears toward the top of the news feed as a module “roughly the size of one image post,” according to Mashable.…
Google appears to be planning some added security for upcoming Chromebooks. The company’s Chromium code repository mentions a fingerprint sensor for Chrome OS, as first spotted by Chrome Unboxed. Led by Apple, Samsung, and others, fingerprint sensors are currently the most popular—not to mention fastest—method of biometric authentication. Windows 10 PCs also use biometric authentication via Microsoft’s Windows Hello feature. Microsoft favors facial recognition and retina scanning in its Windows 10 devices, but it also supports fingerprint scanning. It’s not clear how fingerprint scanning would work on Chromebooks. Presumably, it would be used instead of your Google password to sign…
It’s time to reduce the amount of physical cash floating around the globe to help combat tax evasion and other illicit activities, Harvard professor and renowned economist Ken Rogoff told CNBC on Tuesday. “I’d eventually phase out the $100 note. I’d phase out the $50. And over 10 or 20 years, I’m phasing out the $20s,” he argued, while explaining the thesis of his new book “The Curse of Cash” in a “Squawk Box”interview. “Cash is very good way to port, horde, hide for crime [and] tax evasion. The evidence, I think, is overwhelming that that is a lot of…
After seeing the current education trend all over the world, it has been analysed that 61 million children of primary age do not have access to school. It has been a year since the Sustainable Development Goals, which included the promise for schools, were launched in different parts of the country, and the UNESCO report named ‘Education for People and Planet’ shows the need for education systems to step up attention to environmental concerns. What does the UNESCO report say? This data has been released by UNESCO’s new Global Education Monitoring (GEM) report, which says that in Southern Asia, education…
